Early Life and Learning
Charlotte Dauphin was born in Paris, France in 1987. When she was younger, she trained to be a ballet dancer. However, an injury stopped her dance career. After that, she decided to focus on her studies.
She went to several well-known schools. She studied at EDHEC, the University of London (at the Courtauld Institute of Art), and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Later, she learned about filmmaking at the University of Southern California. Her parents are Chantal Lajous and Laurent Dauphin.
Her Creative Career
Charlotte Dauphin started her own company called Dauphin Studio. This is where she creates all her art. Her work includes performance art, visual art, films, and designs. Her art has been shown at film festivals around the world. It has also been displayed in famous places like the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Serpentine Galleries in London. Some of her pieces are even part of the permanent collection at the MAD Museum in Paris.
In 2020, she released her first full-length movie, L'Autre (which means The Other). The movie's lead actress, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, won an award for Best Actress at the Taormina Film Fest. Charlotte also appeared in her short experimental films, Barre and Architect, alongside French ballet star Marie-Agnès Gillot.
In 2023, she joined the cast of Dear Paris. This film is a tribute to the city of Paris by director Marjane Satrapi. She also reunited with Marie-Agnès Gillot for a special performance of an experimental piece called The Future of Statues at the Musée de l’Orangerie.
Producing Films
Besides directing, Charlotte Dauphin also produces films. She helps create independent movies and works with unique filmmakers. Her first film as a producer was Dark Inclusion by Arthur Harari. This movie won the Louis Delluc Prize for Best Film. It also received many awards at the César Awards, which are like the Oscars in France.
She has also produced films for other directors, such as Mia Hansen-Løve. This includes Bergman Island, which was shown at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. She also works with filmmakers like Marjane Satrapi and Scarlett Johansson for her first movie as a director, Eleanor the Great.
