Charlotte Samuels is an amazing American swimmer. She was born on November 28, 1998. Charlotte is famous for her incredible long-distance swims.
She is known for being one of the youngest people to complete the challenging Ederle Swim. This swim is 17.5 miles long! She swam from Battery Park in New York City all the way to Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Charlotte was only 15 years old when she did this in 2013. She finished the swim in 5 hours, 38 minutes, and 41 seconds. Her amazing achievement was even featured in Sports Illustrated magazine!
Charlotte's Early Swimming Days
Charlotte started swimming competitively when she was just six years old. She joined a team called the Ridgewood Breakers. In 2013, she moved to another team, the Bergen Barracudas.
Open Water Adventures
Charlotte loves swimming in open water, like rivers and oceans.
- In 2010, she competed in a championship in the National Harbor. This was on the Potomac River.
- In 2011, she took part in the Liberty Island Swim. This swim was 1.2 kilometers (about 0.75 miles) around the Statue of Liberty.
- Also in 2011, Charlotte won first place in the Brooklyn Bridge swim! She swam across the East River. The swim started from a small beach at Brooklyn Bridge Park and ended on the Manhattan side.
More Challenging Swims
Charlotte continued to take on big swimming challenges.
- In 2013, she competed in the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. This swim was cut short for the swimmers. They missed the strong forward currents in the Hudson River, which made it too hard to continue.
- Also in 2013, she swam in the very first Cape Circumnavigation Challenge. This was a 15.1-mile (24.3 km) swim around Cape May, New Jersey.
