Chelsea is a city located in Shelby County, Alabama, in the United States. It is part of the larger Birmingham area. Chelsea became an official city on March 1, 1996. At that time, it had a population of 906 people. By the 2020 census, the population had grown to 14,982.

Where is Chelsea Located?
Chelsea is found in the central part of Shelby County. Major roads, including U.S. Route 280, run through the city. This highway connects Chelsea to downtown Birmingham, which is about 19 miles (31 km) to the northwest. It also leads east to Harpersville, about 12 miles (19 km away).
A natural landmark near Chelsea is Double Oak Mountain. This mountain is part of the Appalachian Mountains range. Some parts of Chelsea even extend along U.S. Route 280 on top of this ridge.
