The Chesham River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the beautiful Estrie region. This river is a branch of the rivière au Saumon.
The Chesham River flows through two main areas:
- Notre-Dame-des-Bois
- La Patrie
The main activity in the valley around the river is forestry, which means growing and harvesting trees. The river usually freezes over from mid-December to mid-March. However, it's safest to walk on the ice from late December to early March.
Where the Chesham River Flows
The Chesham River starts from two small mountain streams. These streams meet on the side of a mountain. This mountain is located between Mégantic Mountain and Sommet Valence.
From its start, the Chesham River travels about 20.4 km (12.7 mi). It flows south of Mont-Mégantic National Park.
Here's how the river flows:
- It flows west for about 2.6 km (1.6 mi).
- Then, it turns south for another 2.6 km (1.6 mi). Here, it meets the Fromagerie stream.
- It continues southwest for 3.7 km (2.3 mi). It then joins the Pont Rouge stream near the village of Notre-Dame-des-Bois.
- The river keeps flowing southwest for 3.7 km (2.3 mi), crossing Route 212. It then meets the Deloge stream.
- Finally, it flows southwest for about 7.8 km (4.8 mi) until it reaches its end.
The Chesham River empties into the rivière au Saumon. Its mouth is located about 3.2 km (2.0 mi) upstream from where the Ditton River joins.
