Fun Things to Do at the Zoo!

Besides seeing animals, the Saginaw Children's Zoo has awesome attractions. You can ride a train, spin on a carousel, or even dig for dinosaur bones!

Ride the Iberschoff Special Train

The Iberschoff Special is the zoo's miniature train. It first opened in 1967. This train looks like an old 1880s locomotive. It's a fun way to see parts of the zoo. The train track was rebuilt in 2008, and the train itself was fixed up. A tunnel was even added back in 2009.

Spin on the Carousel

The zoo's Carousel is a special ride. It opened in 1998. Many volunteers helped build it over 18 months. The animals on the carousel were carved by hand. They look like carousel figures from the early 1900s. You can ride on rabbits, horses, zebras, a sea monster, and fish!

Dig for Dinosaurs at Fossil Find

Opened in 1998, the Fossil Find is a cool area for kids. Here, you can pretend to be a paleontologist! You can dig for dinosaur bones and learn about animals from long ago.

Explore the Wetland Experience

The Wetland Experience opened in 2006. It's a natural wetland area with plants and fish from Michigan. You can even see underwater! There's also a crawl-through "beaver dam" that's really neat.

The Animal Stars building opened in 2005. It used to be a place to see educational animals. Now, it serves as an office for the zoo's employees.

Learn and Grow at the Zoo!

The Saginaw Children's Zoo offers many ways to learn. You can take family classes or join zoo camps. They have one, two, or three-day camps. The zoo also hosts special theme days.

The Zoo has an outreach program too. This means they can bring animals and lessons to schools. If you are a teenager aged 13 to 18, you can join the "Zoo Crew" program. This lets you volunteer and learn how a zoo works. You can also watch shows at the zoo amphitheater. Keepers give talks, demonstrations, and animal feedings throughout the day. These are great chances to learn even more!
