Chloe Elizabeth Sutton Mackey, born on February 3, 1992, is an American swimmer. She is known for her skills in freestyle and long-distance races. Chloe proudly represented the United States in two Olympic Games. She has won five important medals in international swimming events. These include three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Her wins came from the Open Water Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, and Pan American Games. She was part of the 2012 United States Olympic team. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the 400-meter freestyle event.

Chloe Sutton was born in 1992 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Her parents are David and Wendy Sutton. She has a younger brother named Colin. Her mother, Wendy, was a sales representative and model. Her father, David, was an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He also played football for the U.S. Air Force Academy. Chloe's brother, Colin, also played football for the University of Colorado.

Early Swimming Days

Chloe started swimming with the Sequoia Farms Stingrays summer swim team. This was in Centreville, Virginia, from 1998 to 2000.

Education and Family Life

Chloe became a professional swimmer on December 22, 2009. This happened during the Elite Pro-AM Meet in Oklahoma City. She finished high school in 2010 through a special study program. In 2015, Chloe earned her bachelor's degree in Communications.

On September 15, 2019, Chloe married Jacob Mackey in Sedalia, Colorado. They now live in Reno, Nevada. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Andrew, in October 2020. Andrew is named after Chloe's grandfather.

Chloe's Swimming Career

Chloe Sutton has won many medals in her swimming career. She earned three medals in open water swimming events. She also won two medals in swimming pool events.

First International Wins

Her first international medal was at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. She won gold in the 10-kilometer open water race. The next year, at the 2007 Pan American Games, she won another gold medal in the same event.

Olympic Appearances

At the 2008 FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships, Chloe won a bronze medal. This was in the women's 5-kilometer open water event. She then qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. At the Olympics, she finished twenty-second in the 10-kilometer race.

In 2009, Chloe qualified for the 2009 World Aquatics Championships. She placed second in the 400-meter freestyle and first in the 800-meter freestyle. At the World Aquatics Championships, her best result was eighth place in the 1,500-meter freestyle.

Pan Pacific Success

At the 2010 National Championships, Chloe performed very well. She placed eighth in the 200-meter freestyle. She was third in the 400-meter freestyle and first in the 800-meter freestyle. These results helped her qualify for major championships.

At the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Chloe won two medals. She earned a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle. She also won a silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle. These were her first medals won in a swimming pool. She also competed in the 10-kilometer open water event but was disqualified.

Later Career and Retirement

In June 2012, Chloe made history. She became the first American swimmer to qualify for the Olympic team in both open water and pool events. At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, she earned a spot for the U.S. Olympic team. This was for the 400-meter freestyle. She finished second in the final of this event.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Chloe competed in the 400-meter freestyle. She finished tenth in the first heats and did not advance to the final. On February 3, 2015, on her 23rd birthday, Chloe announced her retirement from competitive swimming.
