Chlöe Howl's Early Life and Music Career
Chlöe Howl, whose real name is Chlöe Howells, was born in England on March 4, 1995. The special two dots over the "o" in her name, called a diaeresis, were actually a mistake on her birth certificate! Her dad is from Wales, and her mom is English.
Chlöe grew up in a village called Holyport in Berkshire. She went to Holyport Primary School and then Altwood Secondary School. When she was just 10 years old, she recorded her own Christmas CD. She sang All I Want for Christmas Is You and sold the CDs to help raise money for her primary school.
When Chlöe was 16, she left school. Soon after, she signed a record deal with Columbia Records. For a short time, she worked in an office. However, she spent most of the next three years writing and recording songs for her first album.
Becoming a Pop Star: 2013 to Today
On March 4, 2013, Chlöe Howl released her first collection of songs, called an extended play (EP), titled Rumour. It was available for free download. In June 2013, she shared the music video for her first single, "No Strings". She then released a second EP, also called No Strings, on August 26. Her second single, "Paper Heart," came out on December 9, 2013.
Chlöe was nominated for the BBC Sound of 2014 award on December 2, 2013. A few days later, on December 5, she was a finalist for the 2014 BRIT Awards: Critics' Choice Award. She ended up coming in second to Sam Smith. iTunes also named Chlöe Howl one of their "New Artists 2014." Other artists on this list included MØ, Sam Smith, and Dan Croll.
In 2014, Chlöe Howl opened for Ellie Goulding at some of her concerts in Europe. In March 2014, she released "Rumour" as her third single.
Her first full album, Chlöe Howl, was expected to be released in 2014 by Columbia Records (Sony Music). However, by April 2015, news came out that she had left Sony Music. She then released a new song called "Bad Dream" in April 2015. This song was released through an independent music company called Heavenly Songs.
In May 2015, Chlöe worked with the fashion company Fendi. She modeled their new line of Orchidea sunglasses. In June 2016, she appeared in a video with Ella Eyre to promote the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console.
Chlöe continued to release new music. Her song "Magnetic" came out on June 16, 2017. "Do It Alone" followed on October 26, 2017. On October 4, 2018, she released "Work," which was the main song from her EP of the same name. The Work EP was released on November 29, 2018. In 2019, Chlöe released two more singles: "Millionaire" on March 7 and "In the Middle (Sad Banger)" on June 7.
