History of Chokio
The name Chokio comes from the Dakota language. It means "the middle" or "halfway." This name is important because of the city's location.
Chokio was a halfway stop on an old route. This route was used by the Pony Express. It connected the towns of Morris and Graceville. Other stories say it was a halfway point on the Wadsworth Trail. This trail ran between St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Fort Sisseton, South Dakota.
