Chris Carr was born in Reno, Nevada. Growing up, he was a talented athlete. He played both football and basketball at Robert McQueen High School in Reno. He also played for the Reno Steelers Pop Warner team, a youth football league.
In high school football, Chris played as a defensive back and was also an amazing running back. He was named All-State as a running back during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In his senior year, he was named Northern Nevada Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. That year, he ran for 1,944 yards and scored 34 touchdowns!
College Football Career
Chris played his college ball at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. He was a key player for all four years. As a true freshman in 2001, he played in all 12 games and made 32 tackles. Chris was also recognized for his academic achievements, winning the Pat Fuller Memorial Award.
In his senior year (2004), Chris was a top punt returner. He led the NCAA in average yardage per punt return, with 19.8 yards. Even though he missed the last six games of the regular season, he was still honored as an All-WAC player for his skills as a safety and kick returner.
Professional Football Career
Chris Carr had a long career in the NFL, playing for several teams.
Oakland Raiders

In 2005, Chris was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was still picked up by a team. His main job with the Raiders was returning kickoffs and punts on special teams. In his first year (2005), he played in all 16 games. He returned 73 kickoffs for 1,752 yards and 32 punts for 186 yards.
A memorable moment for Chris came on October 29, 2006. While playing as a cornerback, he intercepted a pass from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He then ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown! This was the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in Raiders history and helped them win against the defending Super Bowl champions. Chris is the Raiders' all-time leader in kickoff return yardage, with a total of 4,841 yards.
Tennessee Titans
In 2008, Chris joined the Tennessee Titans. He continued to be a strong player, especially as a return specialist. He had 31 tackles and one interception that year. He also had his best year for returns, averaging 28.1 yards per kick return and 10.1 yards per punt return. The Titans ended that season with the best return average in the NFL.
Baltimore Ravens
Chris signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. At first, he was mainly a returner. However, due to injuries to other players, he started playing more as a defensive back. He finished the 2009 season with 44 tackles and two interceptions, which were career highs for him at the time. He even intercepted a pass from Tom Brady during a playoff game against the New England Patriots.
In 2010, Chris became a full-time starter on defense. He had his best defensive year, setting a new career high with 61 tackles and tying his previous high with two interceptions. In 2011, the Ravens re-signed Chris, but he missed much of the season due to injuries.
Later Career Teams
After his time with the Ravens, Chris played for a few other NFL teams. In 2012, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but was released before the season started. He then joined the San Diego Chargers for nine games, where he made four tackles and returned some kickoffs and punts.
In 2013, Chris signed with the New Orleans Saints. He was cut before the season, but then re-signed after another player got injured. He played in 11 games for the Saints that year before being released again in December.
Retirement and Life After Football
On March 19, 2014, Chris Carr announced that he was retiring from professional football.
After his football career, Chris went back to school. In May 2017, he graduated from the George Washington University Law School. Today, he works as an attorney at a law firm called Murray Osorio PLLC.
