Charles Christopher Carr (born April 30, 1983), known as Chris Carr, is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback, punt returner, and kick returner in the National Football League (NFL). Chris played for several teams, including the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers, and New Orleans Saints. He started his NFL journey in 2005 as an undrafted free agent. Before playing professionally, he was a college football star for the Boise State Broncos.
After his football career, Chris went to law school. He is now a senior attorney.

Early Life and High School Football
Chris Carr was born in Reno, Nevada. Growing up, he was a talented athlete. He played both football and basketball at Robert McQueen High School in Reno. He also played for a youth football team called the Reno Steelers Pop Warner.
In high school, Chris played as a defensive back. He was also an amazing running back. He earned All-State honors as a running back during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In his senior year, he was named Northern Nevada Player of the Year. He also won Offensive Player of the Year. That year, he ran for 1,944 yards and scored 34 touchdowns.
College Football Career
Chris continued his football journey at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. He played all four years there. As a freshman in 2001, he played in every game and made 32 tackles. Chris was also a great student. He won the Pat Fuller Memorial Award for Academic Achievement.
In his senior year (2004), Chris was a top punt returner. He led the NCAA in average yards per punt return. Even though he missed the last six games that season, he was still recognized. He earned an honorable mention for the All-WAC team as a safety and kick returner.
Playing in the NFL
Chris Carr had a professional football career that lasted several years. He played for six different teams.
Oakland Raiders Years

The Oakland Raiders signed Chris in 2005. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was signed afterward. His main role for the Raiders was returning kickoffs and punts on special teams.
In his first NFL season (2005), Chris played in all 16 games. He had seven tackles and two pass deflections. As a kick returner, he ran for 1,752 yards. As a punt returner, he gained 186 yards. He was also good at holding onto the ball, with only two fumbles.
Chris scored his first touchdown as a cornerback in 2006. He intercepted a pass from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown! This play helped the Raiders win against the defending Super Bowl champions. Chris holds the Raiders' record for most kickoff return yards, with 4,841 yards.
Time with the Tennessee Titans
In 2008, Chris joined the Tennessee Titans. He signed a one-year contract with them. With the Titans, Chris made 31 tackles and had one interception. He also had his best year as a return specialist. He averaged 28.1 yards per kick return and 10.1 yards per punt return. The Titans were the best team in the NFL for return averages that season.
Baltimore Ravens Career
Chris signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. He started as a returner for the Ravens. But because other players got injured, he became a more important part of the defense. He finished the 2009 season strong. He recorded a career-high 44 tackles and two interceptions. He even intercepted a pass from Tom Brady in the playoffs against the New England Patriots.
In 2010, Chris became a starter for the Ravens' defense. He played much less as a returner and focused more on defense. This was his best defensive year. He set a new career high with 61 tackles and tied his previous high with two interceptions.
The Ravens re-signed Chris in 2011. However, he missed much of that year due to injuries. He had only 19 tackles. Before this, Chris had never missed a game in his career.
Later NFL Teams
Chris played for a few more teams in his career.
- In 2012, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He was released before the regular season started.
- Later in 2012, he joined the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers needed help in their defense due to many injuries. He played in nine games for them.
- In 2013, Chris signed with the New Orleans Saints. He was released but then re-signed later that season when another player got injured. He was released again in December 2013.
Retirement and New Career
On March 19, 2014, Chris Carr announced that he was retiring from professional football.
After his football career, Chris went to law school. In May 2017, he graduated from George Washington University Law School. He is now an attorney at a law firm called Murray Osorio PLLC.
