Christopher Michael Cillizza (born February 20, 1976) is an American political commentator. He is known for explaining political news and events. He worked for the TV news channel CNN from 2017 to 2022. Before CNN, he wrote for The Fix, a daily political blog for The Washington Post. He also appeared often on Meet the Press and was an MSNBC political analyst.
Currently, he writes his own political blog.

Early Life and Education
Cillizza grew up in Marlborough, Connecticut. He went to The Loomis Chaffee School, a boarding school in Windsor, Connecticut, and finished there in 1994. He then studied at Georgetown University from 1994 to 1998. He earned a degree in English. Today, he lives in Falls Church, Virginia, with his wife and two children. His family background includes Sicilian and Irish heritage.
Career in Journalism
Cillizza started his career in journalism after working as a novelist and interning for writer George Will. He worked for the Washington, D.C. newspaper Roll Call before joining The Washington Post.
Early Reporting Roles
At The Cook Political Report, he covered races for governors and House of Representatives seats in the southern U.S. He also wrote a column about politics for Congress Daily. During his four years at Roll Call, which he joined in 2001, he reported on political campaigns. He covered everything from presidential races to congressional ones. He finished his time at Roll Call as the White House correspondent.
Guest Appearances and Analysis
Cillizza's articles have appeared in magazines like The Atlantic Monthly and Washingtonian, and online in Slate. He has also been a guest on CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. After many guest appearances, he became an MSNBC Political Analyst. He left this role when he joined CNN. He is also a frequent guest on Meet the Press.
He also teaches at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
The Fix Blog
Cillizza started his blog, The Fix, in 2005. He wrote for it regularly until he joined CNN in 2017. The blog focused on American elections. Cillizza wrote about races for governors, the U.S. Congress, and the presidency. He also hosted a weekly live chat for The Fix.
Media Projects
From 2007 to 2008, Cillizza co-hosted the MySpace/MTV Presidential Dialogues. This series featured presidential candidates like John McCain and Barack Obama in live online events. Cillizza and fellow The Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank also appeared in a series of humor videos called Mouthpiece Theater. In one video, they made some jokes that were not well-received and caused a lot of upset. Both men apologized for the video, and the series was canceled.
In July 2012, Broadway Books released his book, The Gospel According to the Fix. The book is written like a blog. It includes lists, discussions about strong feelings in politics, and predictions for the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections.
Since 2014, Cillizza has been a regular co-host of The Tony Kornheiser Show.
Working at CNN
On April 3, 2017, Cillizza joined CNN. He worked as a "political reporter and digital editor-at-large," writing online and appearing on TV.
On June 28, 2017, CNN Politics launched "The Point with Chris Cillizza." This new project included daily articles, TV analysis, an evening newsletter, and a podcast. The show also released political analysis videos on YouTube every Tuesday and Thursday, hosted by Cillizza.
Cillizza also hosted political trivia on his personal Instagram account on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
He left CNN on December 1, 2022.
