Chris Rumph's Early Life and High School Football
Chris Rumph II moved around a lot when he was younger. This was because his dad was a football coach. Before his second year of high school, he moved to Gainesville, Florida. He then went to Buchholz High School.
In his senior year, Chris was a star player. He was named first-team All-State. The Gainesville Sun also called him the Big School Player of the Year. That year, he made 105 tackles and 18 sacks. He also blocked two punts and recovered two fumbles. Chris decided to play college football at Duke. He chose Duke over other schools like UCF and Vanderbilt.
Chris Rumph's College Football Career
Chris Rumph II started his college career at Duke. He "redshirted" his first year. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to train and get stronger.
In his first year playing, he made 25 tackles. He also had 3.0 sacks. USA Today named him a freshman All-American. In his next season, he made 47 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He was named third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Joining the Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers chose Chris Rumph II in the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 118th player picked overall. This happened in the fourth round of the draft. On May 18, 2021, Chris signed his first professional contract. It was a four-year deal with the Chargers.
In November 2023, Chris had a foot injury. He was placed on the injured reserve list. This meant he could not play for the rest of that season. In August 2024, he was again placed on injured reserve. This ended his 2024 season.
Playing for the New Orleans Saints
