Christopher John Alandy-Dy Tiu (born July 15, 1985) is a famous Filipino former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Ateneo Blue Eagles. With them, he won the UAAP championship in 2008.
After college, he played his whole professional career for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. This team is part of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He helped them win the Commissioner's Cup in 2016. Chris Tiu also played for the Philippine national basketball team. He was the captain of the team that played in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship. Besides basketball, he is also a TV host, model, businessman, and even a politician. He currently hosts the TV show iBilib on GMA.

Chris Tiu's Early Life and School
Chris Tiu is the second of five children. His parents are Jerry and Lianne Tiu. He has two brothers, Christian and Charles, and two sisters, Cheryl and Cristine. His father is a president of Tagaytay Highlands Clubs. He also owns other businesses.
Chris went to Xavier School in San Juan City for elementary and high school. Later, he studied at Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. He earned a degree in management engineering and also studied Chinese.
Playing Basketball in High School
Chris Tiu played basketball for the Xavier School Golden Stallions. His team won the Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association championship three times in a row. This was from 2001 to 2003. Some of his teammates in Xavier were Joseph Yeo and TY Tang. In 2019, his old school honored him with an alumni award.
Chris Tiu's College Basketball Career
Chris Tiu played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles during his college years. He almost joined another university, DLSU, where his high school teammates went. In 2003, his team reached the UAAP Finals but did not win the championship.
He took a break from playing in 2005 to study abroad. He returned to Ateneo the next year. In 2006, they made it to the Finals again but lost. Finally, in 2008, Chris and his teammates won the UAAP championship. This ended their six-year wait for a title. They beat their rivals, the DLSU Green Archers. Chris was also chosen twice for the UAAP Mythical Team. His college coach was Norman Black.
In 2008, Chris Tiu was named Favorite Athlete. This was at the first Nickelodeon Philippines Kids' Choice Awards.
Chris Tiu's Professional Basketball Career
On August 3, 2012, Chris Tiu decided to join the PBA Rookie Draft. He had spent years playing for the Smart Gilas national team. On August 19, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters picked him as the 7th player overall.
In 2013, he won the three-point shootout during the All-Star Weekend. He won one championship with the Elasto Painters in 2016. This was the Commissioner's Cup. Chris Tiu announced his retirement from basketball in January 2019. In his very last game, he scored a career-high 30 points.
Chris Tiu's National Team Career
After college, Chris Tiu became the captain of the new Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team. He played for them from 2008 to 2012. His teammates included JVee Casio, Marcus Douthit, and Japeth Aguilar. They were coached by Rajko Toroman. Chris played in three FIBA Asia Champions Cup tournaments. He was also part of the team for the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.
Playing in the 2010 Asian Games
In 2010, Chris Tiu also played in the Asian Games. He scored 14 points against Iran. He then scored 15 points in a win against Chinese Taipei. The team finished sixth in the tournament.
Winning Gold at the 2011 SEABA Championship
To get into the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship, Chris and the Gilas team needed to finish in the top three at the 2011 SEABA Championship. Gilas won every game in the tournament. They earned the gold medal.
Winning Gold at the 2011 SEA Games
Chris Tiu was the team captain for the Sinag Pilipinas team. This team went to the 2011 Southeast Asian Games. They won the gold medal by beating Thailand. His teammates included players from Ateneo, UST, NU, and FEU. They also had two Filipino-American players. Coaches Norman Black and Glenn Capacio led the team.
Winning Gold at the 2012 SEABA Cup
With Chot Reyes as their new coach, Chris Tiu was in the lineup for the 2012 SEABA Cup. They won every game in this tournament too. This made Gilas the top team in Southeast Asia.
Playing in the 2018 Asian Games
In 2018, Coach Yeng Guiao and some Rain or Shine players, including Chris Tiu, played for the Philippines. This was at the 2018 Asian Games. This was Chris's last international tournament. He played alongside NBA player Jordan Clarkson. The team finished fifth, which was the highest for the Philippines since 2002.
Chris Tiu's Player Skills
Chris Tiu was known for his great shooting skills. He was also very smart on the court and a strong leader. He often made important shots and free throws when the game was close. His coach, Rajko Toroman, called him the "best captain" he ever had. This was because of Chris's dedication and basketball knowledge.
His leadership was also clear in his PBA career. He became an important veteran for Rain or Shine. He helped calm tensions and guided younger players. Even though he was not very tall, he played tough. He would take charges and challenge shots. He worked hard on defense to make up for not being the most athletic player.
Chris Tiu's Personal Life
Chris Tiu married Clarisse Ong, who works with investments, on September 7, 2013. Their wedding was in Vancouver, Canada. They had been dating for twelve years. In May 2016, after winning the PBA Commissioner's Cup, Chris shared on Instagram that they were expecting their first child. Their daughter, Amanda Claire, was born on June 5, 2016. Their second daughter, Mari Diana, was born on February 25, 2018. The Tiu family are Catholics.
In July 2019, Chris Tiu became an ambassador for the Department of Science and Technology. Later that year, he helped manage the Volunteers Program for the 2019 SEA Games.
Chris Tiu in Politics
Chris Tiu served as a local community leader, called a barangay official, in Urdaneta, Makati. He held this role from 2002 to 2018. First, he was the youth chairman, and later he became a council member.
Chris Tiu's Business Ventures
While in college, Chris Tiu started a food stall called Chinky Chickens. He was able to open another branch of his business. Chris Tiu also has other businesses with partners. These include:
- Happy Lemon, which is a chain of tea shops.
- Eric Kayser, a French bakery and pastry shop.
- VLink Interactive, a company that helps with marketing. He is the chief marketing officer there.
Chris Tiu has also promoted many brands like Adidas, Hanford underwear, Dockers, Levi's, and Nestlé. He is currently the brand ambassador for a company called DFNN, which provides IT solutions.
