Christine "Christy" Altomare (born June 23, 1986) is an American actress and singer-songwriter. She is famous for her roles in Broadway musicals.
Christy Altomare played Wendla in the first national tour of the musical Spring Awakening. She also played Sue Snell in the Off-Broadway show Carrie. Christy made her Broadway debut as Sophie in Mamma Mia!. She then created the main role in the Broadway show Anastasia. She received great reviews for this part. The Anastasia show finished on Broadway on March 31, 2019. It had 808 regular shows and 34 preview performances.

Early Life and Education
Christy Altomare was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She started performing in local theater shows when she was five years old. At Pennsbury High School, she sang in choirs and acted in school plays.
College Years and Awards
After high school, Christy went to the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music. There, she performed in many different productions. In 2004, she won an award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. This award was for her talent in musical theater. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in musical theater in 2008.
Christy Altomare's Career Journey
Christy Altomare began writing her own songs when she was twelve. She has released three independent music CDs. These include Not Yet Over You (2000) and Waiting For You (2007). She also released an EP called After You (2008). When she was sixteen, she signed with her manager, Edie Robb. Christy says that singers Jewel and Joni Mitchell are her biggest inspirations.
First National Tour: Spring Awakening
In 2008, Christy joined the first national tour of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening. She played the main role of Wendla. The tour started on August 15, 2008, in San Diego. She traveled to 44 different cities across the country. Christy performed in over 600 shows. She stayed with the tour until its last performance on May 23, 2010. Critics often praised her performances. One reviewer called her "innocent and adorable." Another praised her "piercing, haunting soprano voice."
Off-Broadway and Broadway Debuts
After Spring Awakening, Christy Altomare appeared in the Off-Broadway show Carrie. She played Sue Snell at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. You can hear her singing on the official cast recording of this show. On June 4, 2012, Christy made her big Broadway debut. She joined the cast of Mamma Mia! at the Winter Garden Theater. She took over the role of Sophie Sheridan. Christy performed in Mamma Mia! for one year. Her last show was on June 1, 2013.
Starring in Anastasia
On March 9, 2016, it was announced that Christy would star in a new musical. This show was based on the 1997 animated film Anastasia. Christy played the main role, nicknamed Anya. The show first ran from May 13 to June 19, 2016, in Connecticut. Christy received excellent reviews for her performance. She won the Connecticut Critics Circle Award.
She then brought the role to Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre. Previews began on March 23, 2017. The show officially opened on April 24, 2017. Christy's performance on Broadway earned her many positive reviews. She also received several award nominations and wins. This included a 2017 Drama Desk Award nomination. During her time in Anastasia, Christy filmed video blogs for Broadway.com. These videos, called Royal Misfits, showed what life was like backstage. She continued with the show until its final Broadway performance on March 31, 2019.
Recent Projects and Music
After Anastasia closed, Christy performed in a concert version of South Pacific. This was at the Aspen Music Festival on July 22, 2019. She also frequently performs in the Broadway Princess Party concert. She sings in New York City and sometimes tours across North America. She performs with other Broadway actresses like Laura Osnes and Susan Egan.
In January 2020, it was announced that Christy would star in a new musical called The Wanderer. She played the role of Susan. This show was planned to open in 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It later premiered in 2022. In February 2021, Christy announced she would release a solo album of original music. The album, titled Wandering Bird, was released on April 9, 2021. In 2022, Christy also performed in the world premiere of "Noir" at the Alley Theater in Houston, Texas.
Personal Life
In February 2022, Christy Altomare announced her engagement to Chris Crook. They got married in September 2022 in Lambertville, New Jersey. They welcomed their son, Preston, in mid-2023.
