A Special Place: World Heritage Site

This church is very special! In 1999, it was named a National Monument of Chile. This means it's an important historical place for the country. Even more amazing, in 2000, it became one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé recognized by UNESCO. UNESCO calls these places "World Heritage Sites." They are important for everyone in the world to protect.

Who is the Church's Patron Saint?

The church's special protector, or patron saint, is Jesus of Nazareth. The Church of Caguach also shares this patron saint. People celebrate a special day for Jesus of Nazareth. This feast day happens on August 30th. It is also celebrated on the third Sunday of January.

How Old is the Church?

The Church of Aldachildo was finished in the late 1800s. That makes it over 100 years old! It has not had many big repairs or new materials added. Today, the church is still in good shape. However, some parts of the outside and the inside walls show a little wear and tear.
