A Special Place
The Church of Colo is very important! In 1999, it was named a National Monument of Chile. This means it's a special building protected by the country.
World Heritage Status
Even more amazing, the Church of Colo is one of 16 churches on Chiloé Island that became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This happened on November 30, 2000. A World Heritage Site is a place chosen by the United Nations because it has great value to all of humanity. It's like a global treasure!
Building and History
This church was built a long time ago, around 1890. It was made mostly from wood, which is common for churches in this area. Even after all these years, the church is still in great shape.
Patron Saint
The church's special protector, or patron saint, is Saint Anthony. His feast day, a day of celebration, is on June 13 each year. The Church of Vilupulli, another famous church in the area, also shares Saint Anthony as its patron saint.
