Ciboure (pronounced "see-boor") is a town in south-western France. Its name, Ziburu, means 'end of bridge' in the Basque language. It is located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques area.
Ciboure sits on the Nivelle River. It is right across the water from the busy harbour of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
This town is very pretty, just like its neighbour. Many buildings in Ciboure show the traditional style of the Basque people. The Basque style is known for its white walls and red or green timber frames.
You can visit the old church of St Vincent. It was built in the 1500s. The church has a special octagonal tower. Inside, you can see Basque galleries and a beautiful Baroque altarpiece. Close to Ciboure is the Fort of Socoa. This fortress was built in the 1400s by King Louis XIII.
