Clarion is a small town, also called a borough, in Pennsylvania, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Clarion County. Clarion is about 77 miles (124 km) north-northeast of Pittsburgh.
The town was first settled in 1839 and officially became a borough in 1841. In the past, the area around Clarion was known for producing natural gas, oil, wood (lumber), and coal. In 2020, about 3,931 people lived there.
Clarion is famous for its yearly Autumn Leaf Festival. It is also home to PennWest Clarion, a university. The old county courthouse is an important building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Where is Clarion Located?
Clarion is found a bit northeast of the middle of Clarion County. It sits in the Allegheny Plateau region of western Pennsylvania. The main part of the town is high up, about 1,400 to 1,500 feet (427 to 457 meters) above sea level. From there, you can look down into the deep valley of the Clarion River. This river is about 400 feet (122 meters) deep and flows into the Allegheny River.
How to Get Around Clarion
U.S. Route 322 goes through Clarion and is called Main Street. This road goes northwest to Franklin (about 28 miles or 45 km away). It also goes southeast to Brookville (about 16 miles or 26 km away).
Pennsylvania Route 68 (Fifth Avenue) starts in the center of Clarion and heads south. It leads to Exit 62 of Interstate 80, which is about 2 miles (3 km) away. It also goes to Sligo, about 11 miles (18 km) away.

The United States Census Bureau says that Clarion covers a total area of about 1.62 square miles (4.19 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.57 square miles (4.08 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.11 square kilometers), is water.
