Sligo (pronounced SLY-goh) is a small town called a borough in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, United States. In 2020, about 686 people lived there.
Sligo got its name from a town and county called Sligo in Ireland.
Where is Sligo Located?
Sligo is in the southwestern part of Clarion County. It sits in a valley near Licking Creek, which flows into the Clarion River. The area around Sligo has many rolling hills. Long ago, this region was known for its rich supply of coal.
Two main roads pass through Sligo. Pennsylvania Route 68 goes northeast about 11 miles to Clarion, which is the main town of the county. This road also goes southwest about 13 miles to East Brady, a town on the Allegheny River. Pennsylvania Route 58 goes west from Sligo about 13 miles to Foxburg, another town on the Allegheny River.
The United States Census Bureau says that Sligo covers a total area of about 1.41 square miles (3.7 square kilometers). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.004 square miles (0.01 square kilometers), is water.
