Clearlake is a city located in Lake County, California. It is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) north of Lower Lake. The city sits at an elevation of 1,417 feet (432 meters) above sea level.
Clearlake gets its name from the nearby Clear Lake. In 2020, the city had a population of 16,685 people. This was an increase from 15,250 people counted in 2010.

Discovering Clearlake's Past
The Clearlake post office first opened in 1923. Before becoming the City of Clearlake in 1981, the area was known by names like "Konocti" and "Clearlake Highlands."
The very first people to live in this area were the Pomo Indians. They gave names to many important places, including Mount Konocti. Over time, European settlers and gold miners arrived. Sadly, many Pomo people died from new diseases and harsh treatment. This led to a lot of land becoming available for new settlers during the Gold Rush.

Clearlake is found at 38°57'30" North latitude and 122°37'35" West longitude.
The city covers a total area of about 10.6 square miles (27.4 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 10.1 square miles (26.2 square kilometers), is land. The remaining 0.5 square miles (1.3 square kilometers) is water. This means about 4.27% of the city's total area is water.

Clearlake has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. This means it has hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The temperature can change a lot between day and night, especially in the summer. Snowfall is very rare in Clearlake.
