Early Life and Career Beginnings
Cleo. was born in Bow, London. She later moved to Hainault. There, she began making her own music. Her talent caught the attention of Terror Danjah. He is a grime music producer and owner of the Aftershock music label. Terror Danjah discovered Cleo. after hearing her at local MC battles and seeing her profile on Myspace.
Cleo. was chosen to be part of a TV show called Musicool on T4. She was the main female performer on the show. At one point, her amazing talent even made guest judge Jamelia cry. After the show, Cleo. went on a tour across the United States and Europe with The Count & Sinden. This tour included performances at big music events like the Glastonbury Festival and Bestival. Cleo. comes from a mixed-race background.
Music Releases and Collaborations
Cleo.'s first song, "Who Do You Think You Are?", came out on July 27, 2009. It was released by All Around the World Productions. The song was played on popular radio stations like BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. Her second song, "I Like You", was released in November of the same year. It also received airplay on Radio 1Xtra.
Joining A-List Music
In February 2010, Cleo. joined a new music group called A-List. This group was created by the famous rapper Wiley.
She released her third song, "Selecta", in mid-2010. This song was produced by Redlight and released under A-List Music Ltd.
Working with Other Artists
Cleo. has also appeared on remixes and songs with many other artists. These include Wiley, Taio Cruz, Sadie Ama, Dionne Bromfield, and Jazmine Sullivan. In November 2010, a special remix of Tinchy Stryder's song "Game Over" was released online. It was called "Female Takeover Remix". This version featured many female MCs, including Ruff Diamondz, Envy, Lioness, Cherri V, Baby Blue, A.Dot, Lady Leshurr, RoXXXan, and Cleo.
In 2015, she officially announced that her professional name would be Cleo.
Album Plans and Releases
On April 16, 2012, Cleo. released a video for her song "Falling Down" on YouTube. The song was officially available on iTunes on May 6, 2012. Cleo. shared that she was recording songs for her first studio album. However, she decided not to release the album until there was a strong demand for it from her fans.
She recorded about 50 songs for the album. But she only wanted to use five of them on the final album. She also mentioned that she wanted other artists to be featured on her songs. However, she planned to record all her own songs first. Cleo. also said in interviews that she would love to work with Chris Martin from Coldplay, Labrinth, and Wretch 32 on her new album. The album was expected to be released in 2013, but it was never officially put out.
Family Life
Cleo.'s father is MC Scallywag. He was part of the acid house sound system Spiral Tribe in the early 1990s.
