Life and Music Journey
Early Life and Starting Music (1996–2009)
Dionne Bromfield was born in London, England, on 1 February 1996. She grew up in Chislehurst, South London. When she was younger, she went to Gatehouse School and later Beaverwood School for Girls.
Dionne first showed her singing talent on YouTube. She sang a cover of "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys. Her godmother, Amy Winehouse, sang with her in that video. Dionne also studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, which is famous for training young performers.
In September 2009, Dionne became the very first artist to sign with Amy Winehouse's record label, Lioness Records. She performed with Amy Winehouse at a special event called the Prince's Trust End of the Summer Ball. Later, Dionne sang "Mama Said" on the TV show Strictly Come Dancing, with Amy Winehouse singing backup.
First Albums and TV Shows (2009–2011)
Dionne's first album, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released on 12 October 2009. The first song from the album, "Mama Said," came out in November 2009. This album was a collection of cover songs, meaning she sang famous songs by other artists.
In 2011, Dionne announced a new song called "Yeah Right." This song featured Diggy Simmons and reached number 36 on the UK music charts. It was the first song from her second album, Good for the Soul, which was released on 4 July 2011. This album was different because it had all new, original songs written by Dionne and other songwriters. She promoted this album by appearing on TV shows like Blue Peter.
Dionne also became a presenter for the CBBC children's TV show Friday Download. The show started in May 2011 and covered topics like music, dance, and movies. Dionne was very excited about the job, saying she didn't think she would get it!
In July 2011, Dionne Bromfield and rapper Tinchy Stryder teamed up for a song called "Spinnin' for 2012." This song became the first official song for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
On 20 July 2011, Dionne performed at London's Roundhouse. Her godmother, Amy Winehouse, joined her on stage for this performance. This was Amy Winehouse's last public performance. A few days later, Dionne sang at a festival in Wales, supporting The Wanted.
In October 2011, Dionne was nominated for Best R&B/Soul act at the MOBO Awards. She also performed a tribute to Amy Winehouse at the ceremony, singing "Love Is A Losing Game."
In early 2012, Dionne performed outside the UK for the first time at the Summer Soul Festival in Brazil. One of her songs, "Move A Little Faster," was even featured in an episode of the TV show Hawaii Five-0.
New Music and Documentaries (2012–Present)
Dionne recorded a special song called 'Black Butterfly' to honor Amy Winehouse. She shared that a black butterfly appeared at Amy's funeral and stayed on Kelly Osbourne's shoulder during the service. Dionne felt it was a sign and wrote the song about it.
In November 2015, Dionne opened for the American girl group Fifth Harmony at their concerts in London and Manchester.
In 2021, Dionne was part of a documentary called Amy Winehouse & Me: Dionne's Story. This film marked ten years since Amy Winehouse's passing and shared Dionne's memories and experiences. She also released her single "Silly Love" that same year.
