Early Life and Education

Tinchy Stryder was born Kwasi Esono Danquah III in Accra, Ghana, on September 14, 1986.

He moved to the United Kingdom in 1995. In London, he went to St Bonaventure's Catholic School. Later, he studied Digital arts, Moving image, and Animation at the University of East London. He started making music when he was 11 years old in 1997. He began his business ventures soon after finishing his high school exams in 2006.

Music Career Highlights

Tinchy Stryder's first recordings were made in 1998. In 2000, he performed on pirate radio with other artists like Dizzee Rascal and Wiley. From 2001, he was part of the grime music group Ruff Sqwad. His stage name, Tinchy Stryder, comes from a video game called Strider. The "Tinchy" part came from a nickname because he is 5 feet 3 inches tall.

In 2002, he joined the grime group Roll Deep, started by Wiley. This group also included Dizzee Rascal. They made music that was similar to garage music. This style of music later became known as "grime." While with Roll Deep, Tinchy Stryder performed songs like "U Were Always" in 2002. This song was later released on Roll Deep's album Street Anthems in 2009. He also appeared on their 2004 mixtape, Creeper Vol. 2.

First Album: Star in the Hood (2006–2008)

Tinchy Stryder's first album, Star in the Hood, was released on August 13, 2007. It was released through Takeover Entertainment. Two main songs from the album were "Breakaway" (released April 9, 2007) and "Something About Your Smile" (released August 6, 2007). Another song, "Mainstream Money", was also released as an underground single in November 2007.

In 2008, he released his first short album, called an EP, titled Cloud 9 The EP. This was also released on Takeover Entertainment. After this, he worked with grime producer Maniac on an album called Tinchy Stryder vs. Maniac, which came out on November 24, 2008. Only one song from this album, "Rollin", was released as a single. This song was also on his second solo album, Catch 22.

Breaking Through: Catch 22 (2008–2010)

Tinchy Stryder started working with English music producer Fraser T Smith. Smith said that Tinchy wanted to become more popular in mainstream music. Smith had experience helping underground artists become well-known.

The song "Stryderman" was released on July 20, 2008. It was the first song from his album Catch 22. The second song, "Take Me Back", came out on January 19, 2009. His third song, "Number 1," was a collaboration with the hip-hop group N-Dubz. This song reached number 1 in the UK and Ireland.

His fourth song from Catch 22, "Never Leave You", was released on August 3, 2009. The album itself followed on August 17, 2009. "Never Leave You" also became very popular. Catch 22 debuted at number 11 on the European Top 100 Albums chart. The last song from Catch 22 was "You're Not Alone," released in November 2009.

In February 2010, Tinchy Stryder went on his third headline tour. He invited singer Example and rapper JME to perform with him. This tour was very successful and helped Example become more well-known. Tinchy Stryder also performed at the Glastonbury Festival in England on June 27, 2010. He also performed at the O2 Arena in London for a charity event.

Third Album: Third Strike (2010–2011)

Tinchy Stryder's third solo album, Third Strike, was released on November 15, 2010. He started recording this album soon after finishing his previous one. He released a promotional song, "Gangsta?", six months before the album came out.

He continued to work with Fraser T Smith on this album. English singer Taio Cruz also helped produce many of the songs. The album title was inspired by the video game Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. Third Strike features several other artists. These include English singer Amelle Berrabah, who also worked with him on Catch 22.

The album also features Taio Cruz again. Other artists on the album include Canadian singer Melanie Fiona on "Let It Rain". American singers Alexis Jordan and Bridget Kelly are on "Take The World". The song "Game Over" features six different artists. Eric Turner from the band Street Fighting Man also appears on the album.

New Music and Collaborations (2011–2014)

The first song from an album that was planned but never released, called Full Tank, was "Spaceship". This song features English singer and songwriter Dappy from N-Dubz. Tinchy Stryder performed this song at the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final. This made him the first rapper ever to perform at a UEFA Champions League final.

He then worked with Scottish DJs Calvin Harris and Matt Burns (known as 'BURNS') for the second song from the planned album, "Off the Record". On November 3, 2011, Tinchy Stryder announced that his fourth album would be called "Full Tank".

On January 3, 2012, Tinchy Stryder released the video for the third song from Full Tank, "Bright Lights". This song features English singer Pixie Lott. There is also another version of the song called 'Bright Lights Part II' on Pixie Lott's album, Young Foolish Happy. In July 2012, Tinchy Stryder mentioned that the song "Help Me" would be released in September 2012. The video for this song came out on August 15, 2012, and features singer Camille Purcell.

On December 25, 2012, Tinchy Stryder released a freestyle song called "Look at Me Now" on his Facebook page. He said that the first song from his fourth album would come out early the next year. This meant that "Spaceship", "Off the Record", "Bright Lights", and "Help Me" became songs that were not part of any album.
