Clinton is a small city located in Big Stone County, Minnesota, in the United States. In 2020, about 386 people lived there. The city was named after DeWitt Clinton, who was a governor of New York.

History of Clinton
How Clinton Began
The area where Clinton now stands was first settled around 1877. It was known as Central, Minnesota, back then. There was a post office with this name from 1878 to 1885.
Changing the Name
In 1885, the name of the village was officially changed to Clinton. This is also when the village was mapped out. A train station called Batavia, which belonged to the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, was moved to the village in 1885. However, its name wasn't changed to Clinton until 1890. That's when the village officially became a city.

Every summer, usually in July, the Big Stone County Fair takes place. It's held at the Fairgrounds on the west side of the city. The fair has exciting events like demolition derbies and car races.
