A Look Back at Clinton
How Clinton Got Its Name
The town of Clinton was officially named on January 5, 1970. Its name comes from the larger area known as the County of Clinton. This county is the administrative division that includes Gladstone.
Growing as a Suburb
On December 10, 1988, the suburb of Clinton was created. This happened when two smaller areas, Clinton North and Clinton South, joined together.
Clinton State School Opens
Clinton State School first opened its doors to students on January 29, 1974. This school has been an important part of the community for many years.
Planning for the Future
On April 1, 2010, a special plan was made for Clinton. This plan aimed to help with the growing number of people moving to the Gladstone area. Many people were coming because of the mining industry. The plan set aside about 26 hectares (which is about 64 acres) of government land for new homes. This land is located near the Dawson Highway, Harvey Road, and Keppel Avenue.
