Collier Row is a lively neighbourhood in East London, England. It's part of the London Borough of Havering. This area is about 14 kilometers (9 miles) northeast of Charing Cross, which is a well-known spot in central London. It's a suburban place, meaning it has lots of homes and shops, but it's not as busy as the city center.

A Look Back in Time

Collier Row gets its name from its past. Long ago, people called "charcoal burners" used to work here. They would burn wood slowly to make charcoal, which was used for fuel.

Most of the homes you see in Collier Row today were built in the 1930s. This was part of a big plan to build more houses around London between the two World Wars. The main shopping area is found around a central crossroads.

Even older history has been found here! People have discovered signs of a Roman settlement in the area. This shows that people have lived in Collier Row for a very long time.

Getting Around Collier Row

Collier Row is well-connected by buses. However, it doesn't have its own London Underground (Tube) or National Rail train station.

You can find Tube stations like Hainault and Newbury Park nearby. Both of these are on the Central line. The Romford railway station is also close by for train travel.

Many Transport for London bus routes serve the area. These include routes 103, 175, 247, 252, 294, 365 (which runs 24 hours), and 375. There's also a commercial bus route, 575, that goes from Epping to Romford and Lakeside. There are plans to extend the East London Transit bus system to Collier Row in the future.

The A12 road, also known as Eastern Avenue, runs through the southern part of Collier Row. This road connects the area to London and the east coast of Essex. It also crosses the M25 motorway further east.
