Exploring Compo, Connecticut
Where is Compo?
Compo is in the south-central part of Westport. It sits between the Saugatuck River and a neighborhood called Saugatuck on its west side. To the east, you'll find Compo Cove, Sherwood Millpond, and the Greens Farms neighborhood.
The area stretches south to Compo Beach. This beach is right on Long Island Sound. To the north, Compo reaches U.S. Route 1, also known as Post Road. A major highway, Interstate 95, runs through the middle of Compo. You can get onto this highway from nearby Saugatuck or Greens Farms.
A Glimpse into Compo's History
Compo was first officially listed as a CDP before the 2020 census. This means it was marked out as a specific area for collecting population data. In the southern part of Compo, there is a special area called the Compo–Owenoke Historic District. This district helps protect and preserve important historical buildings and places.
