Cookie Run is a super fun series of mobile games. It's all about endless running! These games were made by a company called Devsisters.
The idea for Cookie Run came from the old story of The Gingerbread Man. In the games, gingerbread cookies come to life in an oven. A witch made them, but they escaped her evil plans! In each game, the cookies run, collect points and items, and try to avoid obstacles and enemies. You can play these games on iOS (like iPhones) and Android phones.
How to Play Cookie Run
The Cookie Run games are all about running and collecting things. The newest main game is Cookie Run: OvenBreak. In this game, you can find lots of different cookies, helpful pets, and special treasures. Each one gives you different points when you use them together.
Cookie Run: OvenBreak has six main ways to play. Sometimes, special event modes appear for a short time too. The games are free to download and play. But you can also choose to buy virtual items or special abilities inside the game if you want to.
Main Cookie Run Games
OvenBreak: The Beginning
The very first game, OvenBreak, came out on June 15, 2009. It later got an update called OvenBreak 2 in 2012. Another game, OvenBreak Infinity, also came out in September 2009. OvenBreak Infinity even became the most downloaded free app on the iOS App Store in the United States for a while!
In 2012, a candy brand called Skittles teamed up with OvenBreak. They added Skittles into the game as a special way to play.
Cookie Run for LINE and Kakao
The game simply called Cookie Run first launched for KakaoTalk on April 2, 2013. This was Devsisters' first game using the Cookie Run brand. Later, it came out for LINE on January 29, 2014. This game became super popular, with over 114 million downloads!
However, the LINE version of Cookie Run closed down on June 5, 2018. It was then removed from app stores.
Cookie Run: OvenBreak
Cookie Run: OvenBreak was released around the world on October 27, 2016. It was first called Cookie Run 2 when Devsisters announced it in 2015. Before its big release, it had a "soft launch" in some countries like Canada and Australia in September 2016.
In late 2018, Cookie Run: OvenBreak had a cool event with Sanrio, the company that created Hello Kitty!
Ways to Play in OvenBreak
- Story Mode: You run through different levels and collect parts of a story. This story is about GingerBrave and his friends' big adventure. You can earn stars for each run and get rewards like crystals.
- Trophy Race: This is an online mode where ten players from all over the world compete. You try to get the highest score to earn trophies. Trophies help you unlock new lands. The best players can join the Champion's League to earn special medals.
- Breakout: This is a main part of Cookie Run. You use 3 to 15 cookies in a relay race to escape the oven. Your combined score helps you rank against other players. Getting a high rank can earn you crystals and special cookies.
- Random Breakout: This mode is like regular Breakout, but everything is chosen randomly! Your cookies, pets, treasures, and even costumes are picked for you. This makes it a game of luck and quick thinking.
- Cookie Trials: You pick your collected cookies and try to earn points to move up in ranks, from Bronze to Diamond. You get rewards as you climb higher. When a new cookie comes out, there's a special New Cookie Cup with extra rewards like crystals or chests. These chests can help you get new cookies, pets, or treasures.
- Island of Memories: In this mode, you play through the memories of certain cookies, like Hero Cookie. You face new types of boss fights on each island. Completing levels and objectives earns you stars, which unlock costumes, crystals, and other islands.
- Guild Run: This is where you team up with other players in groups called guilds. You can run together, cook recipes to get boosts, and explore different areas. Guild Runs have seasons where guilds compete against each other. Your guild's rank gives you rewards based on how much you participated.
Cookie Run: Kingdom
Cookie Run: Kingdom came out worldwide on January 19, 2021. This game is different from the others. It's a mix of a RPG where you collect characters and a game where you build your own kingdom! It has new cookies and over 200 levels.
The story in Cookie Run: Kingdom is about the cookies building a new life after escaping the witch. They also go on an adventure to find lost ancient kingdoms before a powerful cookie named Dark Enchantress Cookie can get to them.
Cookie Run: Kingdom has had some cool collaborations! It teamed up with KFC for a special pack. Later, in September 2021, it had a crossover event with Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog! In July 2022, it even collaborated with Disney, bringing Mickey Mouse and his friends to the game.
What to Do in Cookie Run: Kingdom
- World Exploration: This is where you play through the main story of the game. It shows the adventures of many cookies and even has voice acting for the main story parts.
- Kingdom Arena: This is where you battle against other players' teams. You don't control the cookies directly in these fights. It's a seasonal mode, and you get rewards based on your rank at the end of each season.
- Guild Boss Raid: This is a very challenging mode where you team up with your guild members to fight powerful bosses like the "Red Velvet Dragon." You need good strategies as you go up to harder stages.
Cookie Run: OvenSmash
Cookie Run: OvenSmash is a game that is still being made. Devsisters has shown some early ideas for it. It will be the first Cookie Run game to look fully 3D!
Other Cookie Run Games (Spin-offs)
Cookie Wars
Cookie Wars was a spin-off game based on the Cookie Run world. It was a strategy game for mobile phones. About 10,000 players got to test the game early in April 2018.
It was first released in a few countries in July 2018 and then globally on August 23, 2018. However, Devsisters announced on April 15, 2020, that Cookie Wars would be closing down the next month.
Cookie Run: Puzzle World
Cookie Run: Puzzle World is a fun match-three puzzle game made by Devsisters. It was first tested in May 2019 and then officially released worldwide in January 2020.
This game changed its name a few times! It was first called Cookie Run: JellyPop and then Hello! Brave Cookies before becoming Cookie Run: Puzzle World in July 2020.
