Corbières is a lovely municipality, which is like a small town or local area, located in the Gruyère district of Fribourg canton in Switzerland. It's known for its beautiful scenery and quiet life. In 2011, the nearby municipality of Villarvolard joined with Corbières.

History of Corbières

Corbières was first mentioned a very long time ago, around the year 1115. Back then, it was called Corbere. For a while, it was also known by its German name, Korbers, but this name is not used anymore.

Corbières covers an area of about 4.2 square kilometers (1.6 square miles). A big part of this land, about 53%, is used for farming. Forests cover almost 40% of the area. The rest of the land, about 7.5%, has buildings and roads.

Most of the forested land is covered with thick trees. Some parts also have orchards or small groups of trees. For farming, the land is used for crops, pastures for animals, and alpine pastures high up in the mountains.

The municipality is located in the Gruyère district. It sits on the right side of the Saane river. The main village of Corbières is found along the road connecting Fribourg and Bulle.
