Cottonwood is a small town located in Houston County, Alabama, in the United States. It became an official town around 1901 or 1903. Cottonwood is part of the larger Dothan, Alabama area. In 2010, about 1,289 people lived there, and by 2020, the population was 1,048. The town experienced significant damage from a strong tornado in January 2024.

Where is Cottonwood Located?

Cottonwood is in the southern part of Houston County. You can find it at coordinates 31.053646 degrees North and -85.302409 degrees West. Alabama State Route 53 goes right through the middle of the town. This road can take you about 14 miles north to Dothan or about 7 miles southeast to the Florida state line. The town of Malone, Florida, is about 11 miles southeast of Cottonwood.
