Countryside is a special community in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. It's like a small town, but it's called a "census-designated place." This means it's a place the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own city government. In 2010, about 10,072 people lived there.
Countryside is located about 27 miles (43 km) northwest of Washington, D.C.. The Potomac River is to its north. Route 7 is to its south. It's also about 9 miles (14 km) north of Washington Dulles International Airport. Countryside is next to the communities of Cascades and Dulles Town Center.

History of Countryside
How Countryside Was Built
The idea for Countryside started in the mid-1970s. Back then, it was 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of open farmland. This land was divided up to create a new neighborhood.
Building homes in Countryside began in 1981. Construction continued for about ten years, finishing around 1991. Most of the homes were built by a company called Pulte Homes.

Outdoor Activities and Nature
Countryside has many paved paths that go through its wooded areas. These paths are great for walking, jogging, and biking. There are also smaller hiking trails that branch off the main paths. People use these for hiking, mountain biking, and watching nature. Some trails were made by Eagle Scouts, while others have been used for a long time.
Horsepen Run is a stream that flows through the community. It empties into the Potomac River. You can also visit Countryside Lake for fishing and light water activities.
Parks and Recreation Facilities
There are several parks and fun places near Countryside's northern border. These include the Horsepen Run Countryside Nature Preserve. Algonkian Regional Park is also nearby. It has the Algonkian Golf Course.
Other places to visit include Potomac Lake Sportsplex and Volcano Island Waterpark. Algonkian Regional Park also has a boat ramp. This lets people get onto the Potomac River for water sports. There are also several playgrounds within the Countryside community for kids to enjoy.
