Craigmore is a large suburb located north of Adelaide, South Australia. It is part of the City of Playford local government area. You can find it just east of Elizabeth and south of Gawler.

Discovering Craigmore's Past

Craigmore is on the traditional lands of the Kaurna people. They are an Aboriginal group from the Adelaide Plains. European settlers arrived in the early 1850s. The wider area was known as Smithfield.

Many early settlers came from Scotland. The name "Craigmore" comes from Scottish words. "Craig" means "rocky hill" and "More" means "big". This name describes the area well.

Modern Craigmore began to grow in the 1970s. New homes were built by the State Housing Trust. More private homes were added in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. This growth has made Craigmore one of Adelaide's longest suburbs. It stretches for about 3.75 kilometres.

Most of the houses are built near the start of the hills. These hills are used for farming, like raising cattle and growing grapes for wine. Adams Creek flows through the middle of Craigmore. The suburb's height above sea level ranges from 86 to 149 metres.
