It was granted by Commissioner Willey to Thomas Abbott, Nathaniel Abbott and Ethan Allen Crawford in 1834 for $8,000 and contained about 15,712 acres (63.58 km2). As of the 2010 census, the purchase had a total population of 0.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the purchase has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21 km2). The highest point is 2,890 feet (880 m) above sea level, at the northern corner of the purchase boundary.
