History of Crellin
Crellin was built as a "company town." This means a company created the town to support its business. In the early 1900s, Crellin was a busy place. It had large coal mining and lumber operations.
The Preston Railroad was also based in Crellin. This railroad was named after Preston County, West Virginia. It often crossed into West Virginia on its routes. The Preston Railroad stopped running in the late 1950s. Today, very little is left to show that these big mining, lumber, and railroad businesses were once here.
