The eastern streaked plusia (Ctenoplusia albostriata) is a type of moth from the Noctuidae family. You can find this moth in many places, including India, Sri Lanka, eastern Asia, and the Pacific Ocean region. It also lives in places like Borneo, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan, most of Australia, and New Zealand.
About This Moth
This moth has a wingspan of about 30 to 42 millimeters. That's roughly the size of a large coin or a little over an inch. Its head, body, and front wings are mostly brown with a hint of grey.
If you look closely at its wings, you might see some faint, wavy brownish lines. There's also a special white streak on the middle part of its wing. This streak joins a brown streak near the bottom.
Caterpillars and What They Eat
The caterpillars of the eastern streaked plusia are green and move like "pseudo-loopers." This means they arch their bodies to move, almost like they are measuring the ground. They have a few hairs on their bodies with white tips.
When a caterpillar is ready to change, it forms a loose cocoon. It usually does this inside a curled-up leaf. This is where it will transform into a moth.
These caterpillars enjoy eating many different plants. Some of their favorite foods include Conyza bonariensis and other plants from the Asteraceae family. They also like to munch on Dichrostachys cinerea. Other plants they eat are Erigeron, Symphytum, Calystegia, Elephantopus, Calendula, Callistephus, Dahlia, Solidago, Aster, Abelia, Dichrocephala, and Polygonum.
