Cydonie Camille Mothersille, born on March 19, 1978, is a famous former sprinter from the Cayman Islands. She was a very fast runner in track and field events. At first, she focused on the 100 metres race. Later, the 200 metres became her main event. She proudly represented her country in many big competitions. These included four Olympic Games and six World Championships in Athletics.

Her biggest wins were in the 200-meter race. She earned a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics. She also won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2003, she took home a silver medal from the 2003 Pan American Games. Her World Championship medal was a special moment. It was the first time anyone from the Cayman Islands had won a medal at that event.

Early Life and Training

Cydonie was born in Jamaica in 1978. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. While she was in high school, her physical education teacher, Evelyn Rockette, noticed her talent. This is how Cydonie's amazing track career began.

Starting Her Sprint Career

Cydonie started competing for the Cayman Islands in the CARIFTA Games. These games are for young athletes from Caribbean countries. She did very well, winning both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints in 1996. Because of her outstanding performance, she received the Austin Sealy Trophy in 1996. This award is given to the most outstanding athlete at the CARIFTA Games.

College Athletics

After high school, Cydonie went to Clemson University in the United States. There, she continued to compete in track and field. She ran in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and relay races. She was part of the Clemson All-American team for both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

Major Achievements and Medals

Cydonie Mothersille had a very successful career. She won many medals for the Cayman Islands.

  • In 2001, she won a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics in Canada. This was a historic win for her country.
  • In 2003, she earned a silver medal in the 200 meters at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic.
  • In 2010, she achieved a gold medal in the 200 meters at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.

  • Later in 2010, she secured a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the Continental Cup in Croatia.
