A Daim bar is a yummy Swedish chocolate bar. It has crunchy almond caramel inside. This caramel is covered in smooth milk chocolate.

The Story of Daim

How Daim Was Created

Daim was first made by a company called Marabou in Sweden. This happened in the 1950s. Marabou wanted to make a chocolate bar like the American Heath bar. They asked the Heath Co. for their recipe. The Heath Co. said no, but they did share a list of ingredients.

Marabou then used this list to create their very own recipe. They tested it in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1952. It was a big hit!

Daim Around the World

The chocolate bar was first launched in Sweden and Norway in 1953. It was called Dajm back then. Later, it came to Finland in 1963 and Denmark in 1971.

In 1990, the name changed to "Daim" in most countries. However, in the United Kingdom and Ireland, it was still called Dime. An American company, Kraft Foods, bought the brand in 1993. Today, it belongs to Mondelez International. This company was created when Kraft split up in 2012.

Famous Commercials

In 1995, a funny television commercial for the chocolate bar came out in the UK. It featured a comedian named Harry Enfield. In the ad, a salesman said the Dime bar was "smooth on the outside, crunchy on the inside." A customer then joked that he preferred armadillos, which are "smooth on the inside, crunchy on the outside."

Another popular commercial came out in 1996. It was a spoof of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. An adventurer used a Dime bar to avoid a trap in an old temple. But then he went back for the chocolate bar, risking the crumbling temple. In 2005, the spelling in the UK and Ireland also changed to "Daim." This made the name the same everywhere else in the world.

Different Daim Flavors

Over the years, many special Daim bars have been released. In 2007, a 'Limited Edition Cappuccino' Daim bar came out. Other special flavors have included forest fruit, Coke Daim, white chocolate Daim, and dark chocolate Daim. There have also been blueberry Daim, lemon-orange Daim, and mint Daim.

In winter 2023, an orange chocolate Daim was sold in the UK and Ireland. As of March 2023, you could find caramel latte Daim bars in multi-packs in the UK. A Strawberry version was released in early 2024. Daim bars made in Sweden are sold in many countries around the world.

Daim in Other Products

Since the early 2000s, McDonald's McFlurry ice cream has been available with Daim pieces in France.

In 2023, IKEA announced they would no longer sell Mondelez International products, including Daim. IKEA said they wanted to focus on their own brand of sweets. They have been making more of their own chocolate and candy products.
