Early Life and Name
Blocker was born in Dallas, Texas. He lived there with his mother for a short time. When he was seven, he moved to Houston, Texas, to live with his father in the Trinity Gardens neighborhood.
He started singing in church when he was young. He chose the stage name "Dallas" for two reasons. It's the city where he was born, and it's a way to honor his mother, who lived there for a long time.
Starting His Music Career
While growing up in Houston, Blocker focused on singing and making music. He also began writing his own songs. In high school and college, he was part of an R&B group. This group helped him practice his skills as a songwriter, producer, and lead singer. He gained many new fans and caught the attention of people in the local music business. He also directed the choir at Fallbrook Church.
Working with Other Artists
Throughout his career, Blocker has worked with many famous musicians. He has collaborated with producer Bryan Michael Cox and rappers like Bun B, Rick Ross, and Slim Thug.
One of his well-known projects is the song "Get It Girl." He provided the lead vocals, produced, and wrote the song. It was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Bring It On: All or Nothing. He also worked on the hit song "After Da Club" with the late rapper Hawk. This song helped him connect with Latium Records, a label that has worked with famous artists like Pitbull and Chamillionaire.
Solo Music and Success
In 2008, Blocker decided to take charge of his own music career. He started his own independent record label called Blockerboy Music LLC. He released an EP titled Alone and an album called Love and ... in Japan.
His success led to a tour in Japan in 2009. In 2010, he performed as the opening act for the famous R&B star Babyface in Houston.
That same year, his song “Rock Ya Body” became a huge hit. It reached number 75 on the Billboard Top 100 chart. The song was played on the radio so much that over two million people heard it each week. It stayed on the Billboard charts for 20 weeks. He also released a music video for the song.
In 2011, Blocker released another single called “Out Da Club,” which featured the rapper Diamond.
