Early Life and Music Beginnings
Nathan Blocker was born in Dallas, Texas. He lived there with his mother for a short time. When he was seven, he moved to Houston, Texas, to live with his father. From a young age, Dallas loved to sing. He started performing in church. He chose his stage name, Dallas, to remember his hometown and his mother.
When Dallas moved to Houston, he spent a lot of time on music. He sang, learned to produce songs, and wrote his own lyrics. While attending Kashmere High School and during college, Dallas was part of a male R&B group. This group included Brian Angel, who later joined the band Day26. Being in the group helped Dallas use his skills as a songwriter, producer, and lead singer. This helped him gain new fans and get noticed by people in the music industry. He also directed the choir at Fallbrook Church.
Working with Other Artists
Dallas Blocker has worked with many famous musicians. These include producer Bryan Michael Cox and Kevin “Dino” Conner, the lead singer of H-Town. He has also collaborated with rappers like Bun B, Rick Ross, Z-Ro, Slim Thug, Lil Flip, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Trae.
Dallas sang, produced, and wrote the song "Get It Girl." This song was featured on the Bring It On: All or Nothing movie soundtrack. He also worked on the hit song "After Da Club" with the late rapper Hawk. This popular song helped Dallas connect with Latium Records. This record label has worked with artists like Pitbull and used to work with Chamillionaire and Slim Thug.
Dallas Blocker's Solo Music
In 2008, Dallas Blocker decided to take more control of his music career. He started his own independent music company called Blockerboy Music LLC. This happened after he was with Latium Records for a year and then chose to leave.
In 2010, Dallas Blocker released his big hit song, “Rock Ya Body.” The Texas duo Beanz N Kornbread produced this song. It reached #75 on Billboard’s Top 100 chart. More than two million people listened to it every week on the radio. The song stayed on the Billboard charts for 20 weeks.
To go with the song's success, a music video for “Rock Ya Body” was also released in 2010. Michael Kimbrew directed the video. It featured Farrah Franklin (who used to be in Destiny's Child) and Orlando Brown. In 2011, Dallas released another song called “Out Da Club” featuring Diamond. Soon after, the music video for this song came out. It featured Z-Ro and was directed by JC Visuals.
