History of Dalton
Dalton was first planned out in 1882 by a person named Ole C. Dahl. The city was named after him. A post office opened in Dalton in the same year, helping people send and receive mail. Dalton officially became a city in 1905.
The 2020 Tornado Event
On July 8, 2020, a very strong tornado hit areas near Dalton. This tornado was rated as an EF4, which means it was extremely powerful. It caused a lot of damage to three farmsteads, which are groups of farm buildings and houses. Sadly, one person died, and two others were hurt during this event.
Geography of Dalton
Dalton is a small city in terms of its size. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers about 0.23 square miles (0.61 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
Several local roads, called County Highways 12, 35, and 82, are the main routes for getting around Dalton. A major highway, Interstate 94, is also close by. This makes it easy to travel to and from Dalton.

Annual Summerfest Day
Every year, Dalton hosts a fun event called Summerfest Day. This celebration takes place on the last weekend of June. During Summerfest, the whole city has a big rummage sale. There is also a Relay for Life fundraising event, which helps raise money for cancer research. This event happens alongside a large softball tournament. On Saturday evening, there is a lively street dance for everyone to enjoy.
Pioneer Threshermen's Association
Dalton is also home to the Lake Region Pioneer Threshermen's Association. This is a group of people who love old farming equipment. They work to fix up and show off antique farm machines. One special machine they display is the threshing machine, which was used to separate grain. They hold an annual show for these machines the weekend after Labor Day.
