Damville Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake located in the Rivière-Mistassini area of Quebec, Canada. It's part of the Maria-Chapdelaine Regional County Municipality, which is in the north-west of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.
The main activity around Damville Lake is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Tourism, like visiting the lake for fun, is also important.
Forest roads help people get to the lake. One main road, called R0202, runs along the west side of the lake.
About Damville Lake
Damville Lake is about 7.0 kilometres (4.3 mi) (4.3 miles) long and 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) (1.5 miles) wide. It sits 282 metres (925 ft) (925 feet) above sea level. The lake stretches mostly towards the north-west.
You can find "Black Spruce Mountain" on the east side of the lake. A long piece of land, called a peninsula, sticks out from the east side for about 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi) (0.7 miles). The lake also has seven big bays.
Water flows into Damville Lake from a stream in the north. It also gets water from other lakes like Clair, Long, and Éric, and from several lakes to the south-east.
Where the Lake's Water Goes
The water from Damville Lake flows out from its north-west bay.
- It travels about 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) (1.1 miles) through an extension of the lake.
- Then, it flows into the Rivière aux Brochets for about 0.9 kilometres (0.56 mi) (0.6 miles) towards the south-west.
- Next, it joins the Ashuapmushuan River and travels for 100.4 kilometres (62.4 mi) (62.4 miles).
- The water then crosses Lac Saint-Jean for 41.1 kilometres (25.5 mi) (25.5 miles).
- Finally, it follows the Saguenay River for 172.3 kilometres (107.1 mi) (107.1 miles) east to Tadoussac. There, it joins the big Saint Lawrence Estuary, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean.

What's in a Name?
The name "Damville" comes from an old town in France. This town is located in the Eure department, which is in the Normandy region of France.
The official name "Lac Ashuapmushuan" was made formal on June 18, 1993, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
