The Dandongadale River is a cool river in Victoria, Australia. It's called a perennial river because it flows all year round. This river is part of the larger Murray-Darling Basin, which is a huge river system in Australia.
The Dandongadale River starts in the Australian Alps. It flows from the northern slopes of the Alpine National Park. Eventually, it joins up with the Buffalo River. This happens in a wild, untouched part of a national park.
Where the Dandongadale River Flows
Starting Point and Journey
The Dandongadale River begins high up in the mountains. Its source is below the Cobbler Plateau. This area is west of the Barry Mountains. It's also east of Mount Buller. The river starts at a height of more than 1,240 meters (about 4,068 feet) above sea level.
The river generally flows towards the north and east. It travels through a remote national park. Along its way, another river, the Rose River, joins it. The Dandongadale River then meets the Buffalo River. This meeting point is inside the Mount Buffalo National Park. As it flows for 41 kilometers (about 25 miles), the river drops a lot. It goes down 959 meters (about 3,146 feet) from its source to where it ends.
Lake Cobbler and Dandongadale Falls
Near where the river starts, there's a natural lake called Lake Cobbler. It's about 5 hectares (12 acres) in size. From this lake, the Dandongadale River creates something amazing: the Dandongadale Falls.
These falls are the highest waterfall in Victoria! The water drops 255 meters (about 837 feet) in a series of steps. It cascades down over the Cobbler Plateau. If you like outdoor adventures, you can find places to camp and hike in this area.
