Danil Takhirovich Khalimov (Russian: Данил Тахирович Халимов; 6 July 1978 – 15 October 2020) was a talented Greco-Roman wrestler. He was from a Tatar family and competed for both Russia and Kazakhstan. He was known for his skills in the middleweight category.

Danil Khalimov's Wrestling Journey

Danil Khalimov achieved great success in his wrestling career. He won two silver medals in the 74 kg weight class. One was at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. The other was at the 2004 Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty.

Representing Kazakhstan at the Olympics

Danil Khalimov later represented Kazakhstan at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He finished in fifth place, which is a great achievement. He trained hard at the Professional Sport Club Daulet in Almaty. His personal coach was Anvar Sagitov.

Khalimov was born in Nizhny Tagil, which is in Russia. He joined the Kazakh team for the men's 74 kg wrestling event at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Before the Olympics, he showed his strength in other competitions. He finished fourth at the 2003 World Wrestling Championships in Créteil, France. He also won a silver medal at the Asian Championships. These results helped him secure his spot on the Kazakh wrestling team.

Olympic Matches

At the Olympics, Danil Khalimov started strong. In his first match, he quickly beat Yasha Manasherov from Israel. He then won a close match against Olympic veteran José Alberto Recuero from Spain. These wins helped him move forward in the competition.

In the quarterfinal match, Khalimov lost to Reto Bucher from Switzerland. It was a very close match that went into overtime. Even though he lost, he still had a chance to compete for a good spot. He won a match for fifth place against Filiberto Azcuy from Cuba. Azcuy was a two-time Olympic champion, but he had to withdraw from the match due to an injury.

Later Life

Sadly, Danil Khalimov passed away on 15 October 2020. He was 42 years old. He died from COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic.
