Daud Kamal (born January 4, 1935 – died December 5, 1987) was a famous Pakistani poet. He wrote most of his poems in the English language. His poetry was inspired by well-known English poets like Ezra Pound, W.B. Yeats, and T.S. Eliot.

Early Life and Education
Daud Kamal was born in Abbottabad in 1935. His father, Chaudhry Mohammad Ali, was an important person. He was the vice-chancellor of the University of Peshawar. He also started the Jinnah College for Women in 1964.
Daud Kamal went to school at Burn Hall Abbottabad and Burn Hall Srinagar. After that, he studied at the Islamia College Peshawar. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peshawar. Later, he went to England and completed his Tripos degree from the University of Cambridge.
A Career in Teaching and Poetry
Daud Kamal was a dedicated teacher for 29 years. He taught at the University of Peshawar. He was also the head of the English Department there.

Awards and Special Recognition
Daud Kamal received many honors for his poetry. In the 1970s, he won three gold medals. These were from international poetry contests held by Triton College in the United States.
In 1987, he received the Faiz Ahmed Faiz award. This award honors great writers. After he passed away, he was given another special award. In 1990, the President of Pakistan honored him with the Pride of Performance award. This is one of the highest awards in Pakistan. It recognizes people who have done great things for their country.
His Final Resting Place
Professor Daud Kamal passed away on December 5, 1987, in the United States. His body was brought back to Pakistan. He was buried in the graveyard of the University of Peshawar. This was the same university where he taught for almost three decades. His grave is in front of the Pashto Academy.
