David Dumars, born on January 21, 1957, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back, which is a position in football that helps stop the other team from scoring. David played for teams like the Denver Gold and Birmingham Stallions in the USFL. He was also drafted by the New York Jets in the NFL. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Northeast Louisiana University.

Growing Up and High School
David Dumars grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He played both football and basketball for the Natchitoches Central High School Chiefs. David is the older brother of Joe Dumars, who became a famous professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA.
College Football Career
From 1975 to 1979, David played college football for the Northeast Louisiana Indians. He started his college career as a wide receiver. This position catches passes from the quarterback. Later, he changed to play as a defensive back, where he helped defend against the other team's offense.
Professional Football Career
In 1980, the New York Jets picked David Dumars in the NFL draft. He was the 317th player chosen overall. Before playing in the USFL, David played for the Montreal Alouettes from 1980 to 1981. He was with the New York Jets during their 1982 off-season.
David then played in the United States Football League (USFL). He played for the Denver Gold from 1983 to 1984. After that, he played for the Birmingham Stallions in 1985.
Coaching After Playing
After his playing days, David Dumars started coaching. In 1987, he coached at Tallulah High School in Louisiana. From 1989 to 1999, he was a defensive backs coach for the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks.
Later, David moved into basketball coaching. He was an assistant coach for the McNeese State Cowboys basketball team from 2002 to 2018. In August 2018, he joined the Lamar Cardinals basketball staff as an assistant coach.
