Long ago, before Europeans came, the Tequesta people lived in the area that is now Davie. Scientists have found old campsites and graves here. Some of these are 5,000 to 7,000 years old!

When Spanish settlers arrived, many Tequesta people died. The few who remained either went to Havana with the Spanish or joined the Seminoles who came later.

The town was first called "Zona." But soon, people changed the name to "Davie." This was to thank Robert Parsell Davie. He built a school and helped the community in many other ways.
