Daya Vieja is a small town in the Valencian Community of Spain. It is located in the southeast part of the Province of Alicante. This town is part of the Vega Baja del Segura area.

Where is Daya Vieja?

Daya Vieja is located on the west side of the Segura river. It is about one kilometer (0.6 miles) from a town called San Fulgencio. You can reach it easily by a four-lane highway. This road connects Daya Vieja to other towns like Guardamar del Segura, Dolores, and Crevillente.

The town shares its borders with several other places. These include Daya Nueva, Dolores, Formentera del Segura, and San Fulgencio.

A Look Back in Time

The history of Daya Vieja goes back to the 1700s. At that time, the Pinohermoso family got ownership of the land. Until 1707, Daya was part of the larger area of Orihuela. It became fully separate from Orihuela in 1833.

Daya Vieja, along with Daya Nueva, once belonged to the Roca de Togores family. They separated from Orihuela in 1791. In 1928, this family sold the local farmland. They sold it for 1,500,000 pesetas, which is about €9,000 today. The buyers were the García Palmer and García Castillo brothers. They then divided the land and sold it to many smaller owners.

What People Do Here

The main way people earn a living in Daya Vieja is through farming. They use water from special channels that come from Alfeitamí. These channels help to water the fields.

Some of the most common crops grown here are artichokes, hemp, potatoes, and corn. Besides growing crops, people also raise animals. You can find herds of sheep and pigs in the area.
