How Water Moves Through Deerock Lake
The main stream that flows into Deerock Lake is called Partridge Creek. This creek enters the lake from the northwest side. There are also eight other smaller creeks that flow into the lake. These unnamed creeks join the lake from the west, northwest, and south. Three of these creeks come from the north, including one that flows from Twin Lakes. Another creek flows into Deerock Lake from Denis Lake.
Partridge Creek is also the main stream that flows out of Deerock Lake. It leaves the lake from the east end. The flow of water is controlled by the Deerock Dam. From Deerock Lake, Partridge Creek flows into the Skootamatta River. The Skootamatta River then joins the Moira River. Finally, the Moira River empties into the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario, near Belleville.
Visiting Deerock Lake
The Deerock Conservation Area is located at the southeast end of Deerock Lake. This area is managed by Quinte Conservation. It provides public access to the lake. You can find parking here, which costs $10 per day. There is also a boat launch available for those who want to put their boats in the water.
If you are planning to camp, it's important to know the rules. As of 2015, camping areas have become more limited. It is not allowed to camp "at large," meaning you cannot set up camp just anywhere. You must use designated camping spots. These spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that during busy times, especially peak season, a spot might not be available. It's always a good idea to plan ahead if you wish to camp.
