DelVaughn Alexander (born July 16, 1971) is an American football coach. He used to play as a wide receiver in college. He played for West Los Angeles College and then for USC. In 2024, he was the temporary head coach for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for their special bowl game.
Playing Football in College
Del Alexander played college football at the University of Southern California (USC). While there, he played alongside famous players like Johnnie Morton and Keyshawn Johnson. Before joining USC, he played at West Los Angeles College.
Del Alexander's Coaching Journey
Del Alexander started his coaching career at USC. From 1995 to 1997, he worked as a graduate assistant coach. This role helps new coaches learn the ropes.
He has coached for many different college teams. He was the wide receivers coach for the University of Notre Dame. Before that, he coached at Arizona State University, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of San Diego, and Oregon State University. He also coached at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) multiple times.
Alexander even worked for a professional team, the National Football League's San Diego Chargers. In the spring of 2022, he became the wide receivers coach at Georgia Tech.
In 2024, Del Alexander took on a special role. He became the interim head coach for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) for their bowl game. An interim coach is a temporary leader. Under his guidance, UNLV won that game, giving him a perfect 1–0 record as a head coach. He continues to coach wide receivers for UNLV.
