History of Delaware
The town of Delaware was officially created in 1869. It was formed from a part of another town called Cochecton.
Geography of Delaware
Delaware is located in a scenic area. Its western border is the Delaware River, which also marks the line between New York and Pennsylvania.
The town covers a total area of about 35.3 square miles (91.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water, like rivers and streams.

Communities and Places in Delaware

- Callicoon (formerly Callicoon Depot) – This hamlet is located near the western border of the town. It shares its name with the nearby Town of Callicoon.
- Falls Mills – You can find this hamlet in the southeastern part of the town.
- Hortonville – This hamlet is located east of Callicoon. The historic German Presbyterian Church and Hortonville Cemetery is here. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
- Kenoza Lake – This hamlet was once called Pike Pond. It is in the southeastern part of the town. The Stone Arch Bridge in Kenoza Lake is a historic landmark, listed in 1976.
- Kohlertown – This hamlet is in the northeastern part of the town.
- Swiss Hill – Another hamlet in the northeastern part of the town.
- Lower Beechwood – This hamlet is south of Upper Beechwood, in the southeastern part of the town.
- Upper Beechwood – This hamlet is in the north-central part of the town.
