Delta is a small city located in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 376 people lived there. Delta is part of the larger Cape GirardeauJackson, Missouri–Illinois metropolitan area, which is a group of cities and towns that are connected.

How Delta Got Its Name

The name Delta was given to the community in 1914 when a post office was opened there. It was named after a nearby railroad junction. This junction was shaped like the Greek letter delta, which looks like a triangle.

Where is Delta Located?

Delta is found in a flat area next to the eastern part of Hickory Ridge. It's also east of the Whitewater River and south of the Headwater Diversion Channel. You can reach Delta by using Missouri State Route 25 and other state routes like N, P, and EE.

The city covers a total area of about 1.02 square kilometers (0.39 square miles). All of this area is land, meaning there are no lakes or large rivers within the city limits.
