Early Life and Big Challenges
Delvin grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and went to McDonogh 35 High School. During a high school football game in 2006, he had a very serious injury. He fractured three bones in his neck. Doctors were amazed that he was okay and could still move normally. They called his recovery "like a miracle."
Even after his injury, LSU still offered him a scholarship to play college football. Delvin went to LSU in 2008. However, doctors never gave him permission to play football there. He stayed with the team as a player-coach for a while before leaving LSU.
Professional Football Journey
Delvin Breaux's journey to professional football was unique. He started in smaller leagues before making it to the big stages.
Starting Out: Bayou Vipers and VooDoo
In 2012, Delvin played for the Louisiana Bayou Vipers in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL). He played so well that he was named an All-Star.
After that, he joined the New Orleans VooDoo in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 2012. He played there for a short time before moving on to another league.
Playing in Canada: Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Delvin then signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2013. He played for two seasons with the Tiger-Cats. In 2014, he was recognized as a CFL All-Star because of his excellent performance.
Making it to the NFL: New Orleans Saints
After his success in Canada, Delvin got a big chance to play in the National Football League (NFL). He signed with his hometown team, the New Orleans Saints, in January 2015.
In his very first game with the Saints, he recovered a fumble. Later that season, he made his first career interception against the Philadelphia Eagles. For his great effort and courage, he received the Ed Block Courage Award in 2015. He finished his first NFL season with 45 tackles and 3 interceptions. Fans even voted him the team's defensive MVP!
Unfortunately, Delvin faced more injuries during his time with the Saints. He broke his fibula (a bone in his lower leg) in 2016 and again in 2017. These injuries kept him off the field for a long time.
Back to Canada: Second Stint with Tiger-Cats
In 2018, Delvin returned to the CFL and signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats again. He became one of the highest-paid defensive backs in the Canadian league.
Delvin announced his retirement from football in March 2021. However, he decided to return briefly in 2022.
Final Season: BC Lions
In February 2022, Delvin signed with the BC Lions of the CFL. He played nine games that season before another injury ended his year. He officially announced his retirement from football in November 2022.
